Poker is a game of strategy, therefore, it is important to make sure you understand the rules and how to build your strategy before you begin betting.
The game revolves around the dealer. The dealer will give you your own 2 cards and you will need to take 3 cards from the 5 community cards on the table. The dealer will deal these cards starting with the player on their left and work clockwise.
Your objective: Make sure you have the best 5 card Poker hand
The ranking of the cards from strongest to the weakest is as follows:
Royal flush – same suit ten, Jake, Queen, King and Ace
Straight flush – five sequential cards of the same suit
Four of a kind – four of the same cards
Full house – three of a kind and a pair
Flush – any five cards of the same suit
Straight – five sequential cards of different suit (for example 6,7,8,9,10)
Three of a kind – three of the same cards
Two pairs – double the two same cards
One pair – two of the same cards
High Card – if no other player has on the minimum two of the same cards, then the player with the highest card (King) wins
The first person to the left of the dealer will play first. They can either:
Bet – bet the amount they want
Check – do nothing
If anyone chooses to bet, the other players can do any of the following:
Call – match the amount of the raise into the pot
Fold – give up the hand and any chips they put into the pot
Raise – put more chips into the pot
The game continues clockwise as people call, fold or raise until all the chips are in the middle. The dealer then places three more cards on the table, and these are called community cards that everyone can use. Remember, keep your poker face as continue, do not let any frustration or excitement betray your position in the game!
